The ocean is a vast treasure trove of natural resources, teeming with marine botanicals, minerals, and nutrients that are uniquely beneficial for our skin. From seaweeds and algae to sea salts and marine collagen, these marine ingredients have been used for centuries in skincare rituals for their exceptional healing, hydrating, and anti-aging properties.
By harnessing the power of the ocean, we tap into a wealth of bioactive compounds that have shown remarkable results in improving skin texture, tone, and overall appearance. The sea is a natural source of hydration, offering intense moisturization and skin-plumping effects. It is also rich in antioxidants that help combat free radicals and protect against environmental stressors, promoting a youthful and radiant complexion.
Diatomite Cosmetics is an innovative marine-based cosmetic bio-brand that harnesses the power of the sea. Our commitment is to utilize naturally occurring and biodegradable marine substances in our formulations.
Focusing on marine-based skin and hair care aligns with our commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. By utilizing the abundant resources of the ocean, we reduce our reliance on land-based ingredients that may have a higher carbon footprint or be less sustainable to source.
Our aim is to formulate high-quality products that are not only beneficial for cosmetics use, but also for the planet. Join us on our mission to make a positive impact on the environment while enhancing your natural beauty.
Introducing Shelita Renee Augustus, the visionary behind Diatomite Cosmetics, LLC. During her PhD journey in the Applied Science program at The College of William & Mary, Shelita developed a deep admiration for diatoms. Immersed in research papers, she discovered the incredible benefits of diatoms (diatomaceous earth, DE, or diatomite) in skin care. Inspired, she began incorporating diatomite into her own cosmetic routine and was fascinated by the positive experiences shared by others online.
A proverbial light bulb moment occurred, and Shelita resolved to spread the word about the wonders of diatomite and other marine beauty hacks, all with the aim of contributing to a sustainable future in the cosmetics industry.
Shelita has her hands in both water and space. Currently, she is a Pathways Engineering Trainee at NASA's Johnson Space Center's Human Research Program's Space Radiation Element.
Through her work in both realms, Shelita is a true advocate for innovation, sustainability, and the limitless potential of science.
